These are original issue large capacity rucksacks aka "Bergen's" as referred to in the Armed Forces and popular all over, featuring a massive 100 litre waterproofed large compartment with a front pouch and an internal small compartment in the top and a larger one on the lid, plus the option to add 2 more zip-on "rocket pouch" compartments (included).
The Bergen’s are made of hard wearing 1000 denier Cordura material which is as tough as it gets and includes a 3-prong metal frame which provides back support when tabbing with full loads and is removable for the sake of cleaning, the components themselves are as tough as they come and are not made of cheap copies, the buckles themselves having been provided by "Nexus" including the ladder lock, 25mm clips and 50mm waist buckle, there are compression straps on the side of each Bergen for compressing the Bergen down for it to be more comfortable to carry over the pro-longed periods expected.
On the same side as the compression straps are further Nexus clips for attaching the compatible accessories such as the issued Camelbaks, the entire system is known as the Personal Load Carrying Equipment aka PLCE and there are a range of accessories to replace the side pouches to your requirements including Radio, Medical, etc and 3rd party options from other suppliers, its simple as it gets, just zip it on!
The core requirement of the Infantry Bergen is that it can comfortably hold loads of kit and be able to carry it around comfortably, the basic idea for an Infantry soldier, is that you’ll live out of this huge rucksack on your back for extended more without re-supply (except water and ammunition).
As used by ALL arms of the British Army Infantry Regiments including 22 and 23 SAS, and the Royal Marines Commandos of the Royal Navy, and the RAF Regiment of the Royal Air Force
The material is super tough, it’s made of 1000 Denier Cordura which is a super strong fabric and Cordura is actually a brand name for the collection of fabrics which are known for their durability and resistance to abrasions, tears and scuffs.
These rucksacks are check and tested by securing the PLCE zippers on each side together, checking the plastic buckles on the front and the zippers and securing them together, and than taking a pair of side pouches which are zipped together and packed inside each Bergen.
This rucksack represents all you need for camping and trekking needs, anything in the field in fact, and they are also very customizable, an ideal budget option for those wanting a tried and tested option without breaking the bank, this is as good as it gets! You will not be surprised, you'll be able to comfortably fit everything you need for camping; sleeping bag, tent (basha, poncho), poles, bivi bag, clothing, waterproofs, dry kit, etc!
We recommend the use of dry bags to keep your kit separate, their are various capacity options available on the page which come in varying colours, those trained in the Armed Forces or ex-serving will know about the important of "wet and dry" routine as well as personal admin i.e. keeping dirty and clean clothing separate and how to store your kit.
